The 'games historian' Stewart Culin first discovered the game of Fighting Serpents as shown in his book 'Games of the North American Indians'. As part of a massive survey of games played by native American people, he found evidence of a board game with 49 points played by the Zuni tribe of New Mexico called 'Kolowis Awithlaknannai' - meaning 'Fighting Snakes'.

Fighting Serpents rules are virtually identical to Alquerque, the medieval game that evolved into modern day Draughts (Checkers). The objective of the game is simply to take all of the opponent's pieces and the game does need some good thinking in the later stages.

Our board is an authentic leather replica Fighting Serpents game with hand-made wooden pieces.

Suitable for museums, schools, families or anyone interested in the history of board games or native North Americans. The board and pieces come in a convenient cardboard tube so take up very little space when not in use.
